CONFERENCE STATEMENT

N'COBRA (National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America) proudly announces its 21st National Conference, to be held June 25-27, 2010, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our National Co-Chairs -- James Rodgers III and Njere Alghanee -- along with our National Board of Directors and the members of N'COBRA New Orleans Chapter #2 invite you to participate in this special event.

This year's theme is "United Voices for Reparations" and our primary goal is solidifying N'COBRA's infrastructure, the unfinished work begun during last year's conference in Dallas, Texas.

Those in attendance will gain valuable community-building skills needed to educate, mobilize and organize teams of activists dedicated to hammering out the details of a reparations settlement that will help heal our people and diminish the festering vestiges of chattel enslavement, Jim Crow segregation, and modern-day racism.

It is a fact that we are facing enormous challenges in this new political age, brought on by the election of an African American president -- who has said he is not in favor of Reparations for African Americans, yet has seen fit to agree to a 3.4 billion dollar settlement with Native Americans. In addition, we are faced with a Democrat-controlled congress that was humble enough to apologize for slavery yet waits to hear our "United Voices for Reparations" before moving toward true reconciliation.

Moreover, while in New Orleans, we plan to rekindle the unfinished business of demanding reparations that started in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, due to the local, state and federal government agencies failure to protect the human rights of Gulf Coast residents. Together, all levels of government failures in the areas of prevention, evacuation, and rescue led to the destruction of millions of dollars of private property; the loss of thousands of lives - untold numbers still missing; and created thousands of internally displaced families. Reparations are due Gulf Coast families just as much as were the families of the 9-11 attacks. Now is the time that "United Voice for Reparations" demand justice for all families still suffering in New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and throughout the United States since August, 2005, from this gross violation of human rights. No Justice, No Peace!

Lastly, we will continue the work of linking our struggle for reparative justice with continental Africans and those throughout the Diaspora. We have international laws and conventions that speak to our right to reparations for the genocidal war against Africa and Africans worldwide.

N'COBRA contends that the legacy of enslavement, segregation, and oppression will continue to heap injustices upon the African American community until we truly come together to make a change.
